You want to ride the wind, to float free, to experience the excitement of flight, and have decided indoor skydiving is the way to go. So, you begin investigating and start to think that the First Time Flyer packages we offer at Perris Indoor Skydiving may be the best way to make that dream a reality and simulate the freefall portion of a skydive. You can see it’s a great deal that includes flight training with a certified instructor, a flight certificate, and various numbers of ‘flights’, but you’ve got a discerning eye and notice each ‘flight’ is only one minute long.
One minute of flight at a time seems short, doesn’t it? Well, we are here to tell you that in our trade there is a reason for everything, and once you start flying, you will see that a minute is a whole lot longer than it sounds. Here we give you a glimpse behind the curtain and some exclusive insight into why indoor skydiving flights are only one minute.
1. You’ve Got To Walk Before You Run.
If you were interested in completing a marathon, you wouldn’t just go out and run one without training your body, would you? We are betting you would want to work your way up to it. Your body needs to be conditioned to complete such a strenuous task, right? Indoor skydiving is not much different. Each flight is only a minute because it is physically taxing! Your body is not used to what you will be requesting from it, and so, it is best to start slow. In the tunnel, you will be flying your body lying flat on your belly. The front of your body is supporting your weight. This will put a little bit of strain on your shoulders and require you to engage muscles you typically don’t! We don’t want you to overexert yourself, so we begin slow.
2. New Things Take Some Getting Used To.
Since you probably haven’t experienced the freefall portion of a skydive before, the feeling will be a new one and can be a little intimidating. Sometimes it is better to dip a toe in than to jump right in. We doubt you’d want to be thrown into a rushing windy tube for too terribly long before having gotten used to the feeling and sounds in more manageable increments first.
3. Your Body Doesn’t Normally Bend That Way.
Indoor skydiving requires a specific body position for stability. At the center of this ideal body position (both literally and figuratively) is a good arch, and wouldn’t you know, it is the exact opposite of how we typically spend our lives! We spend most of our lives folded forward and drawn into ourselves: leaned over while working at a desk or hunched over a computer, heads tilted down while on our phones, and even scrunched over while we drive. Through physical habituation, we are prone to rounding our shoulders in. For a stable body position during an indoor skydiving flight, you will need to open up the shoulders, arch, and extend your legs. Your body is not used to the type of bend you are asking from it, and it takes a little bit of time for your muscles to get comfortable in the proper body position. Minute increments allow your body the time it needs to open up the chest, shoulders and hip flexors for a nice arch.
4. It’s An Imitation Of The Real Thing!
At Perris Indoor Skydiving we strive to make indoor skydiving an awesome way to experience the excitement of flight as you would on a skydive (just without the skydive). We want to give you an experience unlike any other and as close to the real thing as we can manage. Typically, freefall from 12,500ft will take one minute, and the timing of the flight is one way in which we can accurately imitate the freefall of a skydive. It is an indoor skydiving ‘simulator’ after all!
