Hold the phones. Skydiving more than once? You read that right. While it may seem a big enough challenge to get you to jump from a “perfectly good airplane” for the first time, you might just surprise yourself. It’s not uncommon that people will land from their first tandem skydive—the one they planned to do just to cross off their bucket list—and are ready and raring to go again!
Once you’ve made a skydive, you’ll realize just what the experience consists of, and more likely than not, you’ll find yourself trying to figure out when you can make skydive number two!
Here are 4 reasons why you’ll want to skydive again.
1) There’s nowhere else this peaceful.
Sure, flinging yourself from a plane to hurl toward the ground at around 120 mph doesn’t seem like the most “peaceful” of experiences, but you’d be surprised.
It’s so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, so easy to find your mind consumed by a steady list of things to do. Of course, there’s the bills to manage, the emails you need to check, and the job the boss wants done asap. How often do you find moments where you’re completely focused on the here and now? We are willing to bet it’s not very often.
On a skydive, you’re completely captivated; there’s literally nothing else on your mind except what is happening in that very moment. And when the canopy opens, it’s a most blissful feeling: sailing above the earth, playing with the clouds, taking everything in from an entirely new perspective. You’ll long to come back and find this “happy place” again and again.
2) It’s even better the second time around.
The first time you make a tandem skydive you don’t know what to expect. On your second jump, you know what to anticipate; although, you know how it feels those first few seconds you leave the door of the plane, how it feels to accelerate until you reach terminal velocity, how appreciative you feel the moment the parachute opens, you might just find you’re more nervous the second time around.
The irony is you feel nervous because you know what to expect, but because you know what to expect, you can enjoy the experience all the more!
3) Time flies when you’re having fun.
The freefall portion of a skydive is roughly just 60 seconds. With the amount of adrenaline pumping through you on your first jump, you might not notice how quickly everything goes, but, it’s over in the blink of an eye. This is why so many return time and time again: to grab the bull by the horns and take the world in, in an entirely unique way, through those precious 60 second increments. This is also why so many choose to become certified skydivers. The fun in receiving your skydiving license is that you can then share those 60 seconds with someone else!
4) You open the door to a whole new world.
Being earthbound is grand and all, but there’s something so captivating about exploring something new. Human beings are one of the few creatures on the planet that stretch beyond our physical restrictions: we weren’t given wings to fly, but we do it anyway!
Aside from the major perspective shift, the more you skydive, the more you see how much is out there. If you choose to pursue a skydiving license, a whole new sphere of experience opens up to you in the form of a world of knowledge to accrue and a wealth of skills to build.
